04/10/2011 Entry: "Travel week day 3: Above and around Seattle"

We went back to the monorail first thing in the morning so that we could get to the Space Needle. Interesting to see everything during the day. And you could almost see the mountains. It was very cold up there. So off we went to Experience Music Project. If you want to see a nice Hendrix display and try to get past the keys to "experience" some instruments, that's the place for you. If you are expecting something like the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame (like I was), you will not be experienced. You will be a little disappointed. Granted, they are setting up for a new Nirvana display, but seriously, there's only like three displays there. The guitar room was nice, but focused more on the instrument than the artists. I did get a little verklempt looking at Kurt Cobain's guitar (in Seattle!!!) but it passed. So off we went to find a sushi place that our travel book said was the best in the city. Closed for lunch. Somehow, no sushi has been eaten by us on this trip. How? How is that possible? We did find another place to eat, Icon Grill. Nice Mac and Cheese with Pulled Pork. Off for some shopping. We had to find a small duffel to bring some stuff home in. Slightly disappointed with the Nordstroms. I was expecting something like the big Bloomie's in New York, or the Marshall Fields in Chicago, or our own big Dayton's in Minneapolis. Back to the Pike Place Market which was booming in the afternoon. LOTS of people and stuff going on. Grabbed little bits of food here and there (pastries, shrimp, piroshkies)Found a couple of restaurants that we wanted to hit, but again, they were only dinner places. Slowly we found our way back (via some stops for the elusive duffle-acquired finally at The North Face) to our hotel. Apparently the parfumerie there is world class. Angie ended up getting a perfume that's only sold at two places in the world. Who knew? Nap time and then back to Pike Place, which in just a couple of short hours went from being overcrowded to empty. Went to the Pink Door (hard to find with no sign) for drinks and apps and then to the Zig Zag Cafe, which had the most amazing hand craft mixology that we've seen outside of the Bradstreet Crafthouse in Minneapolis. A truly incredible experience watching Ben make drinks with things we've never seen or heard of before. And that was about it. We came back and crashed. Sunday is a travel home day for Angie (and I'll miss her). I get to go to Las Vegas and start "working". And by "working" I mean having IBM entertain me.
